How do you think Columbo would have fared as a killer?

I am something of a Columbo fan and love he cat and mouse pursuit of the suspects...however I wonder if he would have been able to get away with it if he, himself had bumped someone off. The way he traps the the killer shows a cold, ruthless streak in him that convinces me that it would have taken one of he very greatest of supercops to catch him...if at all.
