Other life in the universe?

I was just watchinga video on how large the universe truly is and it is mind boggling. For anyone o believe that we r the only living beings in the entire universe is soooo short sighted. But my question to ponder is when peopke say that the conditions have to be right for life to exist, such as certain temperatures and water and so on on another planet. But i am thinking that we have no idea what laws of physics exist in places so far away, so why cant life so different from our exist, life that we cant even phathom that lives in 100,000 degree heat, or other crazy things, like 100,000 ft. creatures that are each as big as our planet, i mean face it it is so big out there anything is possible, thats why it annoys me when scientists say that only planets that our similar to ours can provide life.
